SID path

The shop writes the ECU.

Siemens / Continental SID803, SID803A or SID206. OBD port — ECU stays in the car. This desk exports a spec pack. A licensed tool on a cable applies it. Nothing here is a flasher.

On the car

Which SID

Bulkhead, passenger side of the engine bay. On AU right-hand-drive cars that is the left side of the bay. The 16-pin OBD socket is under the dash, driver side.

SID206

Continental lid, later connector moulding. Common on AU facelift 2.0 TDCi.

Still an OBD job on a healthy ECU. Tool version matters more than on 803. Shops that only keep 803 profiles sometimes bounce these — that is a software issue, not a reason to open the case.

When · Stage 1 and Stage 2 road files. Most Stage 3 writes too, once the hardware is on.

Not · Not a USB cable from this website. Not a phone app. Not a mailbox .bin dropped onto a clone tool.

Boot

Recovery

ECU out, case open, boot access on the board. Recovery and stubborn reads.

When · An OBD write was interrupted, the unit will not handshake, or the shop needs a guaranteed read.

Not · Not a driveway pin-out. This desk will not list boot pads, test points, or opening tricks.

Bench / BDM

Recovery

Board-level read and write on a programmer. Last-resort recovery and cloning.

When · The ECU is already dead, or a like-for-like unit is being prepared as a spare.

Not · Not a calibration step. Not how you install a Stage 1. Immobiliser work is a different job.

What they do with the zip

  1. 01

    Confirm the ECU on the car

    Read the case. SID803, 803A or 206. Match the licensed tool profile to that lid, not to a Facebook listing.

  2. 02

    Health gate

    Oil, fuel filter, DPF pressure, EGR, clutch slip test, no stored powertrain codes. A clean SID on a dirty engine is still a dirty job.

  3. 03

    Battery on a maintainer

    Stable 13 V+ for the whole session. A dying battery mid-write is the classic way to brick a SID. Headlights off, blowers off, doors shut.

  4. 04

    Read and archive this car

    The stock file comes off THIS ECU. Keep it. A spec pack is not a substitute for the original read. Never write a file built from a different car.

  5. 05

    Open the Focus Map pack

    Zip, JSON, CSV or the work order. Tables are targets: torque, IQ, rail, boost, VGT, smoke, EGR, SOI. The tuner applies them in their software.

  6. 06

    Checksum in the licensed tool

    The pack has no firmware checksum because it is not firmware. The tool that writes the SID calculates and patches that. If a file has no checksum pass, it does not go on the car.

  7. 07

    Write, then leave it alone

    Ignition on, engine off. Do not cycle the key, slam a door, or pull the connector. Typical OBD write is minutes, not seconds.

  8. 08

    First start and log

    No powertrain codes. Commanded vs actual boost, rail, IQ, soot. Fourth-gear slip check at 2,500 rpm before you call it done.

The pack is

  • Stage targets for torque, driver wish / IQ, rail pressure, boost, VGT duty, smoke limiter, EGR rate, SOI
  • A dyno curve to aim at, not a measured pull from your hub
  • A work order the shop can print
  • A spec ID so you and the tuner are talking about the same file

The pack is not

  • A flashable .bin, .hex, or encrypted SID dump
  • A WinOLS / ECM Titanium project
  • A checksum, RSA patch, or seed-key
  • A clone of another car's immobiliser or EEPROM
  • A DPF or EGR delete. Road files keep both.

Stage 1

First drive should feel like more mid-range, not a different engine. Watch clutch take-up for a week. If the DMF already talked, it will talk louder now.
